Carrier Screening
Carrier Screening is a type of genetic testing that allows you to find out whether you carry a gene or are a carrier for certain genetic diseases. If performed before or during pregnancy, it can give you valuable information about the risk your child may have of inheriting a genetic disease. There are two approaches to carrier screening – targeted and expanded.
Targeted Carrier Screening tests for disorders based on ethnicity or family history. Expanded Carrier Screening is done without regard to race or ethnicity and offers screening for multiple and varied genetic disorders.
Carrier Screening is also advised for couples planning on undergoing IVF procedures and before Pre-Implantation Genetic diagnosis. It is also advised for individuals who plan to donate eggs/sperm.
