Dr. Edwin W. Naylor is a distinguished leader in newborn screening and genetics, best known for his pioneering work in multiplexed newborn screening and the use of tandem mass spectrometry (MS/MS) for detecting metabolic disorders. He received the Robert Guthrie Award in 2014 for his contributions to the field. His pioneering work has expanded the field of genetics in allowing deep genotyping from minimal sample input.
As a pioneer in newborn screening, Dr. Naylor developed MS/MS techniques that have screened over 3 million newborns. He remains active in the field, serving as President of BioChem Genetics LLC and an adjunct professor at the Medical University of South Carolina. He also has authored over 120 publications.
